English (Warning: Unfinished)

  • A lament is an expression of sadness. With close reference to the text, discuss the style used
  • in the non-italicised section of the poem to convey this sadness.

In the poem “Lament”, Glenn Colquhoun uses many techniques to effectively convey the
feeling of sadness. One such technique is personification. For example, we see Colquhoun
uses personification in his similes to describe the world around the narrator as if they were
human like “if the front door trembles like a lip” and “trees keep their shadows tightly to
themselves” This humanizes the world as if it is going through stages of grief. This
technique greatly ties into the idea of grief and how it can change the way we perceive the world.

  1. I personally think you should work on separating where you put spaces and capital letters, some spaces are missing causing the piece to look more cramped.
The writing is controlled well and is easy to read but the layout needs more work than the writing itself.
